Early estimates reveal that WWE Summerslam scored approximately 525,000 buys; by the time final figures are calculated, that number is expected to jump as high as 575-600,000. Because the show was, in many ways, a one-match card, the buyrate definitely confirms strong interest in Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels.
If the estimates hold up, this year's Summerslam easily tops last year's show, which was headlined by Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton. It also becomes one of the top-performing non-WrestleMania shows of the last four years.
Aside from being a "dream match," the Hogan-HBK match made headlines due to the reported backstage tension between the two wrestlers. Michaels was said to be furious with the way Hogan played politics to get a clean victory with the leg drop and opted not to take part in a second match when it became clear Hogan was not interested in splitting the victories.
